
Kochi- The 11-member student group from Liverpool John Moors University who are visiting Kochi for the past few days had a talk with industry minister P. Rajeev. The student group arrived in Kochi as part of the International Summer School organized by UK-based International Skill Development Corporation (ISDC) in collaboration with Jain Deemed to Be University. The meeting was held at P.Rajeev’s MLA office. Students talked about the activities undertaken by the state government for sustainable development along with industrial development. Minister explained achievements of Kerala in the fields of education, health and environmental protection.
The minister stated that while welcoming investment, the government is focusing on industries that do not harm the environment. He spoke about the environmental limitations of Kerala to starting large-scale industries. Minister said the government will be firm in targeting industrial development and implementing labour laws and explained the achievements of Kerala in the IT and IT-related sectors. P.Rajeev also informed that big IT companies are coming to Kerala.
Tom Joseph, Director of New Initiatives at Jain Deemed to Be University, who was with the group, said that the meeting with Rajeev was very beneficial for the students who came from the UK to learn about the Kerala model of development. The visits of such foreign student groups have made it clear to change outside misconceptions about Kerala. ISDC Executive Director Teresa Jacobs was also present with the team.
ISDC organising the International summer school to exchange Knowledge and diversity in culture internationally. ‘Goals of sustainable development is the theme for this year’s summer school.
