The Self-Admitted Dubai-born Confused Mallu
Brown-Eyed Charmer
David John, nee Joji Jose, who also goes by DJ is a man of many talents (and names). While most of his photographs reveal a side to him that seems intense, he is a charming and enthusiastic young man with a taste for living life to its fullest- all with his hair either pulled back in a ponytail or with a hairband.
He’s been a celebrity show stopper in many lead fashion shows. David is also an extremely passionate dancer and has been a part of several stage shows. He also frequently appears acting in several national and international ads. His most recent ad campaign was for Malayala Manorama and can be seen on all leading Malayalam TV channels.
On the Big Screen
David John works predominantly in the Malayalam film industry. He made his debut in 2014 in Amal Neerad’s Iyobinte Pusthakam in 2014 alongside Fahadh Faasil where he played the younger version of Jinu Joseph.
He has played a comic role starring alongside Aju Varghese, Dhyan Sreenivasan, Neeraj Madav and Namitha Pramod in John Varghese’s Adi Kapyaare Kootamani. He played the role of Suraj Venjaramoodu’s in Chadrattan Evidya, starring Dileep and Anusree.
He has also played negative roles in Mammootty-starrer The Great Father and Dileep-starrer Pooram. David played a lead role in Mammooty-starrer Masterpiece as well as a few short movies, the most popular one being Love @ First Fight, directed by Dileep’s brother Anoop. He considers Anoop sir to be his guide, guru, an elder brother and role model.
He then got a part in Ullasam alongside Shane Nigam. Immediately after the release of Masterpiece, he signed on Bigg Boss Malayalam.
Malayalam superstar Mohanlal had even put forth David’s name for another film Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham, but owing to the heavy star-cast, he was promised a better role in his upcoming film. He kept his word and has now cast him in his upcoming film, Ram.
And then the Small Screen on Bigg Boss Malayalam
His ticket to instant fame was his stint on the Malayalam Bigg Boss hosted by Padmashree Mohanlal. He believes that his time at the Bigg Boss house, even though he was the first to get evicted within a week, brought him more popularity than his career in films. He expressed that his time in the house and the version of it portrayed in the show did not reveal him as he was. He would have loved an opportunity to stay longer and was even open to a wild-card entry option.
Even with his limited time on the show, he garnered a lot of attention and love from people, making him a social media celebrity of sorts.
The Self-Admitted Dubai-born Confused Mallu
On his Instagram bio, David labels himself a Dubai-born Confused Mallu. Having spent his entire childhood in Dubai, he then moved to Kerala for his post-graduation in Computer Application from the Federal Institute of Science and Technology in Angamaly. He even worked as a software engineer for a few years in InfoPark before dedicating his life to following his passion for acting and modelling.
A Star Among Stars
His social media is filled with pictures of him with his celebrity mentors and colleagues. While he usually is on the receiving end of media attention at events, he has also had quite a few starstruck moments. The most recent one was Malayalam superstar Mohanlal taking David’s birthday celebrations up a notch with a spectacular and memorable birthday celebration. He has had the pleasure and the amazing opportunity of celebrating his birthday with the stalwarts of the industry over the years- Mohanlal, Mammooty and Dileep.
David John, truly is, a star among stars.
